Men's Basketball Drops Season Opener

New Orleans, LA- The Jaguar men opened their 2025–26 campaign on the road Thursday night, dropping a 94–61 decision to Loyola University (La.) inside The Den.

The Jaguars showed early effort but struggled to keep pace with a hot-shooting Wolf Pack team that hit 48% of its shots and connected on 14 three-pointers. After falling behind 37–20 at halftime, A&M–San Antonio battled through the second half and found a stronger offensive rhythm, putting up 41 points after the break.

Josean Dembo led the Jaguars with an efficient 13 points and seven rebounds, going 6-for-9 from the field and 1-for-2 from beyond the arc. Fotis Hristopoulos added eight points, five rebounds, and three assists off the bench, while Dezmon Dudley and Joseph Taylor chipped in six and five points, respectively. Paul Stegmann provided toughness inside with four points and three rebounds, and Felix Greif added four points and five boards.

The Jaguars' bench provided a major boost, scoring 46 of the team's 61 points, and the team recorded 16 assists on 23 made field goals. Despite shooting 36.5% from the floor, the Jaguars continued to compete until the final buzzer, showing flashes of promise from their depth and second-half adjustments.

Loyola was led by Kameron Johnson's 15 points and five assists, while Kosta Bjelicic and Georgios Vassilakis each scored 13.

Texas A&M–San Antonio (0–1) will look to bounce back as they take on Southern Univeristy-New Orleans on Saturday.
