Jaguars Fall in Season Opener at Providence (MT)

Great Falls, MT – Texas A&M University–San Antonio opened its 2025–26 women's basketball season on the road Friday evening, falling 70–53 to Providence (Montana) inside McLaughlin Gym.

Despite a strong finish to the second half, the Jaguars were unable to overcome an early deficit as Providence's balanced scoring and rebounding advantage set the tone.

Senior guard Evelyn Lorenzo led A&M–San Antonio with 19 points, connecting on 10-of-13 from the free-throw line while adding five rebounds, two assists and two steals. Maya Simon chipped in nine points on 3-of-7 shooting, while Emily Carranco added seven points off the bench, knocking down a pair of three-pointers.

The Jaguars trailed 23–13 after the opening quarter and went into halftime down 32–20. A&M–San Antonio battled back with an 18-point third quarter — sparked by Lorenzo's six points and key baskets from Simon and Carranco — but Providence maintained its edge behind its frontcourt presence.

Providence's Brooke Dial poured in a game-high 22 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, while Katie Fleming added 14 points and Ainsley Thurber scored 11. The Argos outrebounded the Jaguars 51–40 and scored 38 points in the paint.

A&M–San Antonio shot 23.3 percent (14-of-60) from the floor but stayed in the game behind a 69 percent effort from the free-throw line (20-of-29). The Jaguars' bench contributed 24 points, showing depth in their season debut.

The Jaguars (0–1) will look to bounce back on Saturday when they take on Montana State-Northern.
