Softball Makes Deep Run in RRAC Tournament

Alexandria, LA- The Jaguar softball team put together a solid run at the Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC) Softball Tournament this past weekend making it all the way to the semifinal game where they fell to host LSU-Alexandria. This was the program's second most impressive performance at the conference tournament having made it to the championship game in 2023 where they ended up falling to cross town foe Our Lady of the Lake University.

The Jaguar's did not make it easy on themselves by dropping game one to University of Houston-Victoria (UHV) by a final score of 7-4. The Jaguar's led this game all the way through the fifth inning until UHV's bats came alive propelling them to the come from behind win and sending the Jaguar's to the loser's bracket in the double elimination tournament.

Game two for the Jaguar's was a dominant performance against University of the Southwest (USW) where the 6-0 score did not really tell the story. The Jaguar's were never threatened in a game that saw them with 11 hits and 0 errors to USW's 4 hits and 2 errors.

Following the strong win against USW, the Jaguar's had to earn their game three win against a formidable Texas A&M-Texarkana (TAMUT) team (ranked #22 in the final national rating). In a game that, at the start, looked like the Jaguar's were in control ended up being a nailbiter with TAMUT scoring three unanswered runs in the fourth inning. Ace pitcher Ryanne Limon came into the game in relief to starting pitcher Morgan Gutierez in the sixth inning, and Limon pitched two solid innings only giving up one hit earning herself the save.

In game four, the Jaguar's were given, and capitalized on, a chance at revenge against UHV, who it seemed all season had the Jaguar's number. Including game one, the Jaguars had not beat UHV all season despite many close games. The Jaguar's won the one that really counted, though, with game four ending 2-0 in their favor. Ace pitcher Ryanne Limon pitched a complete shutout game for the Jaguar's earning the team a spot in the semifinals.

Unfortunately, in game five the Jaguar's fell to an LSU-Alexandria squad, who finished the regular season as the #8 ranked team nationally. The game ended in a 10-2 score with the game being scoreless and competitive until the fourth inning when LSU-Alexandria put up 6 of their 10 runs, effectively ending the game.

Ryanne Limon and Samara Aguilera were named to the All-Tournament Team
