Men's Soccer Drops Two In Key Homestand

San Antono, TX- In a Thursday and Saturday conference homestand for the Jaguar men's soccer team, the Jaguars dropped two matches to two of the top teams in the RRAC losing to Xavier university 3-0 and 2-0 to LSU-Alexandria.

Thursday's match against Xavier was billed as a match against two conference powers vying for control of first place in the conference. The Jaguars had looked the part opening the season 5-0-1 on the season and 2-0 in conference play. Unfortunately, the Gold Rush of Xavier did not receive that memo well. Xavier came out on fire torching the Jaguars with goals at the 1:52, 4:26, and 7:11 marks essentially ensuring the game was over before even hitting the 10:00 mark. The Jaguars would get nothing going and went into half time behind by the three goals.

The second half would only get worse for the home team. At the 52:10 mark the Jaguar's Christian Guerrero drew a highly questionable red card putting the jaguars down a man for the rest of the match. It cannot be said with a straight face the Jaguars ultimately lost the match because of the red card, but the red card was a terrible call all the same. The rest of the match saw the Jaguars playing back with only one or two players playing up, which was successful in limiting the damage. The Gold Rush went up 4-0 with a goal at the 68:05 mark, and that would be the game's final score.

Much like the Jaguar women, the Jaguar men looked like a different side on Saturday when facing LSU-Alexandria. The Jaguars were able to string together quality play throughout the first half and statistically were even with the Generals. The match would go into half time 0-0.

The second half saw the Generals come out swinging with half time adjustments that were clearly effective in putting the Jaguars on their heels. The Jaguars were able to play well in spurts, which was enough to keep the match competitive throughout, however, the Generals were able to put the Jaguars away with goals at the 46:31 and 75:02 marks.

The two matches put the Jaguars at 5-2-1 overall and 2-2 in RRAC play. The Jaguars will next go on the road to face Louisiana Chirstian and LSU-Shreveport, putting the Jaguars against two more of the conference's top teams in what will be a pivotal week for defining the RRAC soccer table.
