Men's Soccer Wins First Match In Program History
TYLER, Texas- The A&M-San Antonio men's soccer team defeated Texas College 3-1 on Saturday for the program's first win in history. The win brought them to 1-1 for the weekend having been defeated by Jarvis Christian College on Thursday.
Scoring got started for the Jaguars on Saturday with a Koen Beard stollen ball and service towards the attack that resulted in a deflection and first half goal by Diego Filero. In the second half, Texas College got on the board to tie the match at one a piece with a strike from Officier Ramadhani, but the Jaguars would go on to net two more from Saeed Valdes (off of a corner kick from Carlos Buruca) and Jaden Pharris (off of a corner kick from Carlos Buruca and assist by Frederick Kumassi) respectively.
Following the win, Coach Kyle Beard said, "Our guys played inspired soccer today. They have been building up to this moment, and all of the credit goes to their perseverance and will to never give up on the process of becoming a better team." He continued, "Texas College was incredibly fast and they are well coached. We really had to put together a complete game for this one. Overall it is a huge step forward for our team, and we have no intention of going backwards. We will continue to move forward knowing this is the type of game and play we have been working towards."
The men now 1-5-2 overall and 1-4-2 in RRAC play will play a 3:30pm RRAC match against Huston-Tillotson University at A&M-San Antonio's home field.
