Bringing more than a decade of collegiate coaching experience to A&M-San Antonio, Christi Cano is the men’s head golf coach and assistant athletic director–senior woman leader. In her dual role, she supports departmental operations, fundraising, sponsorships and long-term planning, while overseeing all facets of the men’s golf program, including recruiting, budgeting, training, travel coordination and student-athlete development. Under her leadership, A&M-San Antonio earned its first individual conference champion (Jacob Pena) and first National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) National Championship appearance in spring 2025. Her teams have consistently performed at the highest academic levels, ranking in the top five NAIA GPAs with a 3.67 in 2023–24, and producing nine NAIA All-America Scholars, multiple Golf Coaches Association of America President’s Recognition Team awards, and several individual honors including Red River Athletic Conference Player and Freshman of the Year. Before starting at the Univertsity in 2020, Cano served as the men’s head golf coach at the University of Houston-Victoria for four years. She holds a B.S. in marketing from Oklahoma State University and an M.S. in sports administration from Southeastern Oklahoma State University. She emphasizes recruiting high-character student-athletes, building a culture of academic excellence, and fostering competitive environments that prepare players for success on and off the course.
