Men's Golf Makes Historic Run At Wayland
Plainview, TX- The Jaguar men's golf team traveled out to Wayland Baptist's Chicken Express Classic and came off the course having secured a handful of achievements to include the team's first tournament win in the short history of the program.
Through the first round the Jaguars shot seven under and finished the round in second place by a mere three strokes to Ranger College. The Jaguars were led individually in the first round by sophomore Kyle Mahan who shot 3 under for the round. All Jaguars shot no worse than even for the round setting themselves up well for the second round.
The Jaguars not only gained the lead after the second round, but they also put themselves in full control of the tournament by going thirteen under as a group, which is the best tournament round score in Jaguar golf history. Senior Aden Morales shot a team low 6 under, which was 65 strokes through the round. 65 strokes is the lowest individual score in A&M-San Antonio golf history, narrowly beating out former Jaguar great Jacob Pena for the honor.
Going into the third round with the lead was fortunate for the Jaguars as the host team Wayland Baptist would come up to seriously challenge the Jaguars in the third round. Upon completing the last hole, the Jaguars would stand at a tie with Wayland shooting thirteen under to the Jaguars' six under. Leading the way for the Jaguars individually was sophomore Loris Bonnetton Alban who went four under par. The Jaguars would ultimately go on to break the tie with Wayland winning the tournament through a one-hole tie breaker.
The Jaguar men will next compete in LSU-Alexandira's Fall Invitational starting on October 27th.
