Men's Golf Makes History in Fort Worth
Fort Worth, TX- Men's golf opened their 2025-2026 campaign at Texas Wesleyan University's Texas Intercollegiate Tournament, and though the result might not look all that impressive, the Jaguars made history by shooting the lowest team round in the history of A&M-San Antonio golf finishing with a -4 in their third and final round of the tournament.
The opening round of the tournament was the Jaguars worst of the tournament with a team total of +7. Nils Emil Sjo was the top Jaguar after the first round with a -3 for the round.
With the worst behind them, the Jaguars improved in the second round with a +5, while Jack Wilson and Kyle Mahan both finished at par leading all other Jaguars in the second round.
In the third and final round, the Jaguars showed what is possible by ending the round with a -4, which is two strokes better than any other round in team history. The Jaguars were led by Viktor Akin who finished with a solid -3 for the round. All told the Jaguars finished +8 for the tournament finishing in seventh place out of nine teams.
Head Coach Christi Cano said, "The overall result was not necessarily what we wanted, but when you consider the amount of experience we lost to graduation this past season, in hindsight, it's not all that surprising that our first couple of rounds were a little shaky. That being said, every round we were led by a different guy, showing our depth, and what's there to be upset about in playing the best round in our history to finish the tournament off? If we can develop consistency and play on the level of our final round for every round of a tournament, we are going to be hard to beat."
