Men's Basketball Earns RRAC Tournament Berth
San Antonio, TX- For the first time in program history, the Texas A&M University-San Antonio men's basketball team is headed to the Red River Athletic Conference Tournament.
In just their second year as a program, the Jaguars have secured a postseason berth, finishing eighth in the final RRAC standings and earning a spot in the conference tournament field.
A&M-San Antonio closed the regular season 7-14 in conference play and 8-20 overall, edging into the top eight in a competitive 12-team league. The Jaguars finished ahead of Louisiana Christian University (5-17), Texas College (4-18) and University of the Southwest (2-20) in conference play to clinch their historic berth.
The RRAC regular season was led by LSU Shreveport, which posted a dominant 20-2 conference record (23-5 overall), followed by LSU Alexandria at 18-4 (21-7 overall). Xavier University of Louisiana and Our Lady of the Lake University each finished 15-7 in league play, highlighting the depth and balance throughout the conference.
For the Jaguars, the milestone represents more than just a number in the win column. In year two of the program's existence, A&M-San Antonio has already taken a significant step forward — building a competitive foundation, navigating the grind of a full RRAC schedule and earning the right to extend its season.
Throughout conference play, the Jaguars showed resilience, battling through close games and gaining valuable experience against some of the NAIA's top programs. That growth paid off down the stretch, as A&M-San Antonio held its position in the standings to secure the No. 8 seed.
Now, the focus shifts to postseason play.
The RRAC Tournament appearance marks the first in school history and provides the Jaguars an opportunity to continue building momentum for the future. With postseason experience now part of the program's résumé, A&M-San Antonio has taken a major step in establishing itself within the conference landscape.
The Jaguars will take on the #1 seed, LSU-Shreveport, in a game in Shreveport at 7:30pm on Tuesday February 24th.
