Bio

David Smith is the men’s assistant basketball coach. Prior to joining the University in 2024,  he served as the men’s basketball assistant coach at Our Lady of the Lake for four years.  He held the same position at Trinity University for nearly six years. Leading up to his  collegiate coaching career, Smith, who grew up in Kentucky, served for over 23 years in the  U.S. Army, where he held several senior-level positions, including logistics plans officer and deputy commander. In addition, he served as head coach of the Men’s All Army  Basketball Team four four year, coaching six different teams that competed all over the  world, including Lithuania, Korea, Belgium, and Brazil. He has an M.S. in logistics  management from the Florida Institute of Technology and a bachelor’s degree in justice  administration from Hawaii Pacific University. His coaching style is heavily influenced by  structured, military-inspired systems focused on communication, accountability, and  shared vision.
