Texas A&M-San Antonio to Add Men's and Women's Basketball

San Antonio, TX- Texas A&M University-San Antonio (A&M-San Antonio) is excited to announce the addition of men's and women's basketball as intercollegiate athletics team offerings for the 2024-2025 academic year.

A&M-San Antonio competes within the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) as members of the Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC). Members of the NAIA are expected to ultimately maintain no less than six intercollegiate athletic teams (three women and three men), and the RRAC stipulates that each of its members compete a men's and a women's team in a Winter sport. Adding men's and women's basketball is a win-win in terms of satisfying the NAIA and RRAC requirements. The university currently carries men's and women's soccer, men's golf, and softball.

The men's and women's basketball teams will practice and compete in A&M-San Antonio's Recreational Sports Center, which is currently under construction and scheduled to be completed by Summer of 2024.

Athletics Director, Darnell Smith, is ready to get the programs going. "We are excited to be adding men's and women's basketball to our Athletics Department and Jaguar family! As one of the fastest growing Universities in the state of Texas, the addition of these intercollegiate sports will increase enrollment, create, and enhance campus traditions, provide a source of entertainment and social opportunities for the campus and local community."

A&M-San Antonio will soon begin a national search for the respective head coaches.
